Forever Faithful: The Complete Trilogy by Karen Kingsbury

Forever Faithful: The Complete Trilogy is written by New York Times best-selling author, Karen Kingsbury.  It is a massive book with a little over 1,100 pages, but it contains the three books in this series:
Waiting For Morning
(Synopsis) A drunk driver…a deadly accident…a dream destroyed. When Hannah Ryan loses her husband and oldest daughter to a drunk driver, she is consumed with hate and revenge.  Ultimately, it is a kind prosecutor, a wise widow, and her husband’s dying words that bring her the peace that will set her free and let her live again.
A Moment of Weakness
(Synopsis) When childhood friends Jade and Tanner reunite as adults, they share their hearts, souls, and dreams of forever----until a fateful decision tears them apart. Now, nearly a decade later, Jade’s unfaithful husband wants to destroy her in a custody battle that is about to send shock waves across the United States.  Only one man can help Jade in her darkest hour.  And only one old woman knows the truth that can set them all free.
Halfway to Forever
(Synopsis) Matt and Hannah….Jade and Tanner----after already surviving much, these couples now face the greatest struggles of their lives; parental losses and life-threatening illness threaten to derail their faith and sideline their futures.  Can Hannah survive the loss of an adopted daughter?  Will Tanner come through decades of loneliness only to face losing Jade one final time?

Okay, here’s my problem with books such as these:  You have a writer (a talented writer, to be sure) who makes her living writing Christian-based novels; and this being a series rooted deep in Christian faith….this makes books such as these really predictable, especially if they are based around possible faith-wavering events.  While I don’t mind reading the odd “I almost lost my faith, but I got it back in the end” type of book, it was a bit much to read all at once in this massive tome.  Fans of Kingsbury will be thrilled with this collection, because it offers up enough of drama and turmoil to test any faith, and the stories were pretty heartwarming around the end.  I believe even women (and very, very few men) who are not into Christian-based books would enjoy it if they enjoy chick-lit, because while there is loss and strife, there is also love.

Clearly this is not my genre, however. And while I do believe it to be well written, and worthy of any accolades it receives.....I did find the stories predictable (though, to be fair, most books in this genre are), and in all, not my cup of tea.

3 Stars

I recieved a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

  1. Thanks for your honest review. It does sound a bit much for me too. :O)

  2. I can't see me buying the series but I'd have a look at it if I came across it in the library. Also the authors name is bigger than the title and that is rarely a good thing.

(I know it's a weird observation but it's saved me from a boring book in the past)

  3. There is an audience for it, don't get me wrong. For instance, I let my mother read it, and she loved it. But....I think you'd really have to love women's Christian fiction. Like, really love it.

Gyran...this probably wouldn't be your bag, either. LoL

  4. lol I've actually read all three and *loved* them when I first read them. And yes, all at the same time, haha. After reading a lot of one author's books, though, it becomes blah so I don't read much of her stuff anymore. Appreciate the honest review :). It was indeed predictable - but I kind of enjoyed them lol.
