Okay, not really, but I did come across a couple of early films Stephen Chow acted in that I haven't seen yet, on YouTube. Stephen Chow, for those unaware, is a brilliant actor, director, writer, producer, and comedian from Hong Kong. He was in such films as God of Cookery, King of Beggars, Fight Back to School, and gave us such kick A-word (<--*snicker*) films such as Shaolin Soccer and Kung Fu Hustle. At any rate, he's one of my favorites and I find his films to be hilarious.
If you haven't seen one of his movies, ......you should really do so. (<--Gah! I sound so pushy! (@_@*)
Here, I'll do you a solid. Shaolin Soccer in 3.........................................

And for discussion purposes.....
What is your favorite Stephen Chow film, if you have one? Any other favorite Chinese actors, directors, or writers?
I don't really have a favorite, by the by, because the majority of them have one really epic scene that sticks with me and has me bowling over with a fit of the giggles.....so, it's hard to pick. I really liked him in Love on Delivery, though, so sweet! lol
ReplyDeleteMy friends and I used to rent these from the video store since they were usually only about a dollar. I'm talking about the really old chop socky stuff.
ReplyDeleteThat's how I discovered Forbidden City Cop which led me to Shaolin Soccer.
The same! A lot of times, the really poorly subtitled, total B-movie type (would be "Z", if there were such a ranking) would be 2 for $1 and I bet I've seen hundreds that way. As a kid, one of my favorite villians was Bolo Yeung (Yang Sze), so the films he was in was my most sought after. (Ugh, Bloodsport though...the Van Damme movie....Bolo was awesome, but...ugh...Van Damme....).
ReplyDeleteYour cool factor just went up in my book. *throws confetti*
I've seen Kung Fu Hustle which was very bizarre, funny, and...well, different. I've been wanting to rewatch that one. I may have to check some of the others.

Tossing It Out
Gold indeed! "Shaolin Soccer" and "Kung Fu Hustle" are two of my favorite in what I like to think of comedy kung-fu movies. Over the top. Silly. Some of the most outrageous action scenes ever filmed. Mainly since they can cheat with CGI. Great fun.
ReplyDeleteNot surprisingly, the movies been taken off-line.
I've seen Star Trek 2009 with John Cho aka Hikaru Sulu goofing up big style over Enterprise parking break.
