And so, every Monday, I will talk about a villian in a book (fiction or non-fiction, animal or man), that I thought was worth mention.
From the book Doctor Who and the Abominable Snowmen (written by Terrance Dicks), the character Padmasambvha is quite a jerk. As the Doctor and his companions, Jamie and Victoria land the TARDIS in old-tyme Tibet to visit the once peaceful Monestary, they discover that things aren't quite how the Doctor left them those 100's of years ago. Now the Monestary has a guard and they let no one in because....well, who can you trust nowadays, what with once-peaceful-but-now-ravaging Abominable Snowmen roaming about trying to gobble people up?
But Padmasambvha with his ridiculously difficult-to-pronounce moniker and all, is not really the mystical being in the Sanctum, but proves to be.....you'll never guess! (Or, you might have you ever read or seen any Doctor Who episodes). Well, this baddie is an alien (Surprise!) who controls the robotic and immensely difficult to destroy Yeti, not caring who or what he crushes in their path.
A being so ancient and apparently self-conscience enough about his appearance that he hides away belting out commands to those who enter (and for those who see him, he seems intent on making them perform tasks that aide him...mind control!), he has a penchant for unrealistic goals such as, well, taking over the world. (I mean, really...was he neglected to be told that it was a Doctor Who book before taking the gig? He has no hope against the Time Lord. None!!) But, he gives it his all anyway, and you gotta give him points for trying.
So, there you have it.....a monster fit for a Monster Monday post. And for you science fiction geeks out there (Holla!) check out the book. It's from the rather simplistic Doctor Who days but it has it all: time travel, magic power cells that act on their own accord, aliens, and ...hello! Robot Abominable Snowmen! (And the Doctor, who is the bestestestest (well, you get the idea) character around)
I'm sold!
