Monster Monday

Monster Mondays are all about Villians. We all love the heroes, and they get the most praise, but without the villians in literature, there would be no heroes.

And so, every Monday, I will talk about a villian in a book (fiction or non-fiction, animal or man), that I thought was worth mention.

Since this is the first of my Monster Monday posts, I thought I would bring up one of my favorite-at-the-moment villians, Lord "Moldy Voldy" Voldermort (aka He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named, aka Tom Riddle, aka The Dark Lord) from the Harry Potter series of books by author J.K. Rowling.

Old Voldy has a troubled past, having been abandoned before birth by his Muggle father and placed in an orphanage after his mother died giving birth to him. He spent his boyhood making others miserable with his troubled use of magic before gaining entry to Hogwarts.

Once there, he had no real friends but had gained a following of other Slytherins, never trusted anyone, always cunning and calculating on the inside but portraying a model student on the exterior.

But, his biggest rise to fame was becoming the darkest wizard the wizarding world has seen, amassing a group of minions who would kill on command, and filling the hearts and homes of all with fear.

His downfall was the inability to see and understand the power of love. Well, that and a young boy named Harry Potter.

Check out Voldemort in The Harry Potter Books 1-7.

  1. As far as villains go, you gotta love Volemort! He's clever and cunning, and I would love if my villains could be half as heinous as he...lol
